FO Friday: Knotty Gloves

Another of these mopping-up FO posts.

Yarn: Krafty Koala BFL Nylon Sock Yarn in Midnight Tempest. Unknown yardage, probably used 60% of the skein.

The colour of the yarn is really difficult to capture!

Dates: 1st February 2009 (!!!!!!!) – Some time late 2013 to early 2014.

Notes/mods:

  • There may be some accidental modifications involving the cables, but we’re not talking about those.
  • These are very comfortable to wear and the cable on the back of the wrist is a really clever way of bringing the glove in without including any shaping.
  • Incorporated some of that conductive thread in the index finger of the right hand glove for operating of fancy schmancy touch-screen stuff. Ideal for paying for your tram ticket without having to take of your glove!

I wasn’t, then I was, then I definitely wasn’t and so now I am!

I wasn’t, then I was, then I definitely wasn’t and so now I am!

(Note: this would have been brought to you sooner if I hadn’t done my back in putting on my jeans on Saturday and followed that up by falling in the supermarket car park and twisting my knee on Wednesday.  I’m hoping that all my bad luck is piling into January and the next 11 months will be plain sailing.  I know; but I can hope!)

I’m so weak-willed when it comes to a challenge and the Ravelympics is no different. I had some success the last time  I participated in 2008 and I’m hoping to replicate that this year.

I have entered myself in to two events; WIPs-Dancing and Sweaterboard Cross.

Here are the willing entries:

Knotty Gloves for WIPs-Dancing.

knottygloveufo (by dyedinthewool)

Completed: One glove and part of the second glove
To Do: complete cable on second glove, finish hand, work 4 fingers and a thumb.

Cupcake top in Sweaterboard Cross

cupcake swatch (by dyedinthewool)

Completed: Pre-tournament training swatching
To Do: well, all of it!

Sandvik Shawl in WIPs-Dancing
(This is my over-achieving entry in case I finish the other two in time)

sandvik2 (by dyedinthewool)

Completed: cast on, one chart repeat
To Do: at least another 2 or 3 chart repeats to make a decent-sized shawl.

Don’t knit cables while distracted

Why? Because this happens:

Can’t see it? Compare to the pattern and have a look at this

That cable is supposed to go under, not over. I wondered why it didn’t look quite right. I now have a dilemma; do I make the same mistake on the second glove or do I actually pay attention to the pattern this time and do it right. I’m not afraid of asymmetry, and would anyone actually notice if they were different? On the other hand …

Photo Projects:

I’ve signed myself up for Project Spectrum: Cardinal Directions (see the page I’ve set up for more details – eyes top). For March and April the theme is North (green, earth, minerals).

I’m also still going with the self-portrait Project 365 (a photo a day for 365 days) and here’s my mosaic for February;

Knitting Projects:

As well as the Knotty Gloves, I’m still working on Guided by Love socks as well as my Ample Knitter’s design and I’ve added a pair of Baudelaire socks to the pile

Oh, yes!  Sorry to keep you in suspence about the holiday thing!  Turns out my grandma might not be able to fly (and if she can, she might find getting insurance nearly impossible).  She does have a back-up plan of Pembrokeshire (Wales) which she can drive to!  She wasn’t keen on the Barcelona idea, so I’ve decided that I could do that myself at some point in the future.  Thanks for the advice anyway, and I’ll certainly add a couple of those places to my “must see” list (it’s getting longer, not shorter!)
