This is not my dad (obviously.  Maybe not obviously, I don’t know.  But in any case, my dad is much less plastic and only slightly more talkative!  Love you dad!)

Pattern: (name, author, source) Reverser by Woolly Wormhead from “Going Straight” [My Ravelry Project Page]

Size(s): (to fit, finished size) To fit my dad’s 22/23″ head

reverser3Yarn: (name, fibre, weight, colour) King Cole Fashion Aran (acrylic/wool) aran-weight yarn in Granary (#89)

Needles: (size, material, style) 5 mm aluminium circular (used for flat knitting)

Knitting style: (for stitch patterns) Combination

Modifications: None.

Notes: Really great pattern from Ruth (as usual) and I had no problems with it.  It’s a fantastic men’s/unisex pattern and I would have knit this in a day if I hadn’t got the deadly lurgy on Friday and thought I was going to collapse/die and spent most of the day lying down in a darkened room (literally).  I didn’t die, and I managed to finish the hat!

This is the same yarn I knit my dad’s Gansey in and my Strawberry Joe hat (also from the Going Straight book).  It’s a fairly work-horse yarn and I expect it to stand up quite well to my dad’s head! 😀

  1. Well, that’s a good move, the not dying. Hope you are over your Lurgy and feeling better now. Love the hat though I am extremely jealous that even a (possible )ventriloquist’s dummy looks better in a hat than I do.

  2. The Lurgy is still upon me, unfortunately 😦

Harry (the aforementioned hat model) is a Cabbage Patch Doll knock off and handily has the same sized head as me!

  3. Sorry about the Lurgy =( awesome hat, though. I wish I had a same sized head doll thing laying around, getting a pic of me in a hat is nearly impossible. (fortunately my children have large heads, so… I guess I don’t need the doll THAT much)

    feel better soon!

  4. LOL…just read a bit of your blog where I thought you said the hat was made from HORSE hair and I was just thinking…that would be really itchy and hard to knit. Then I re read …work horse yarn… and it made more sense.
    I need better reading skills

  5. i stumbled on to your page through some knitting blogs. i really am enjoying your entries. but my reason for commenting isn’t about the knitting, rather its about the doll in the picture above, i had when when i was young. i called it “big john”. but we moved countries and my parents didn’t think it was important enough to pack . could you tell me its name or manufacturer so i can find it again? any assistance is appreciated.
