WIP Wednesday?

Posted on

Yup!

I know!

It’s a bit monotonous (Lace.  Shawl.) but mighty pretty!

Choose Your Own Adventure Shawl:

Clue 2 finished.

anniversary shawl clue 2

I chose chart A – pretty much at random, really.

Aims for next week: work clue 3 when it’s released on Saturday.

Mystery Shawl 2:

A scant 2 and a half years on from starting it, look where I am!

moss shawl nearly done

Hopefully, the next post will be me modelling the shawl and being very, very happy that it’s done!

Other stuff:

The Project With No Name is finished and I’m almost done writing the pattern up.  I’m really pleased with how it looks and how it fits and I just hope I can do it justice (and not make any many mistakes!).

I just need to work through Marnie’s tutorial on doing a schematic (or draw one by hand and scan it!) and then I’ll be done.

Changes/WIP Wednesday

Knitting content below, but a brief interlude first.

I made a vague reference to an event and a person causing me stress.  Well, the beginning of a period of worry started today.  My baby brother, my little TweedleDee, is over 3000 miles away in America.  For 9 weeks and three days.  Everyone keeps saying he’ll be fine, but I can’t help but worry.

I umm-ed and ahh-ed about whether or not to write about this in a public forum but I am stressed and it’s affecting my health (mouth ulcers and skin problems a-go-go).  There were tears and arguments in the lead up to this, and he’ll be missing both my parent’s birthdays for the first time since he was born.

We’re a very close family and it’s going to be really weird without him and his smelly feet hanging around.  I’ll cope.  I think!

WIP Wednesday 26/03/2008:

Thanks to Wanda’s comment to my last post I remembered that I’d forgotten (!) about my dad’s cardigan in my WIP/UFO list.  Ooops!  I still haven’t done anything on it, but for a couple of very good reasons (the commissioned piece and a little something for my mum’s birthday).

Fetching for my mum:

fetching 26-03-08

Medium (369 x 500)/Large (800 x 1085)

I started these when I was in the Lake District but I’m only just finishing them.  I need to have them finished for the weekend, so I should be OK.

Swan Lake:

Medium (335 x 500)/Large (800 x 1194)

I’m going quite steadily on the "wing", but as each row is longer than the last, I’m slowing down!

Strawberry Joe:

Medium (471 x 500)/Large (800 x 850)

Another item I left off my list is this hat.  I need to concentrate on it so I’ve not been working on it a lot.  I’m 2 pattern repeats from finishing it and I’m sure I could complete it in a day if I applied myself – stay tuned!

I’m feeling very out of it anyway, regardless of where my brother is, because the Wisdom teeth on the right-hand side have decided to try and come through.  I was told that it was unlikely they would ever come through because I inherited my dad’s tiny jaw and I have too many teeth for the space available!

I have an "owie". :(

Not many works in progress

But one finished item.

gravel

Oh, yeah, that’s all you’re getting.  Sorry!  You’ll just have to wait, I’m afraid.  I’m very pleased with how it’s turned out (10 days to design and knit it, which I’m also very pleased with).  I just hope the person/people I’ve created it for like it as much as I do!

There is one active work in progress at the moment, my Swan Lake/Mystery Stole:

MS3 wind progress

Medium (500 x 313)/Large (800 x 500)

The photo on the left was taken with the flash and the one on the right taken without.  The right-hand photo shows the texture of the lace, but the left-hand one actually shows the lace!

I was just admiring my handiwork when I noticed this:

ms3 problem

Medium (500 x 375)/Large (1024 x 768)

HELP!!!!

It looks to me like I’ve forgotten to knit a yarnover at some point, because it’s not unraveled or anything.  What do I do?  Should I leave it be, try and fasten it down, scream?  I’ve stuck a safety pin through the loop for now, just in case it decides to wander somewhere, but I need advice.  Stat!

And finally …

You may not be able to share my joy for this final piece of news, but, I have bathroom flooring!

flooring

Remember the plastered ceiling because of the burst pipe?  Well, this is the finally piece in the very large puzzle.

I very nearly cried when I saw it for the first time.  I’m quite pleased with how it looks.

WIP Wednesday – 12/03/08

And on a Wednesday, too.

Mystery Stole 3/Swan Lake Stole:

I’m now on to the wing – hurrah!

ms3 12-03-08

Medium (273 x 500)/Large (600 x 1100)

I promise this isn’t the same photo as last time.  See?  No?  OK, well it’s not!

Yarn still stinks, but I seem to have fallen back in love with this stole.  Good job, too.

On Your Toes socks:

First sock is done-ski.

onyourtoes 12-03-08

Medium (332 x 500)/Large (488 x 734)

It’s a snug fit, but I like my socks like that.  I’m not happy with the way I’ve done the heel, especially now I’ve tried it on and it stretches out a bit too much and the holes from the yarn over short rows are a bit ick.

Something:

Well, this is the "something" for "somewhere" to be published "sometime".

somethingwip 12-03-08

Medium (375 x 500)/Large (400 x 534)

The yarn arrived this morning and I’d made very good progress.  I sketched out the pattern between 01:00 and 03:00 this morning when I couldn’t sleep.  Stupid gales.

And that concludes this week’s Work in Progress Wednesday.

I’m beyond stressed at the moment (personal reasons I’ll probably not go into at this point, but the person causing the stress knows how I feel and they are appropriately guilt-ridden) and I have to get the "Something" done pretty sharp-ish sooooo … I may go a bit quieter than usual (chance’d been a fine thing, say my family).

I’ll be hanging out on Ravelry if you need to hear some of my wit (!), so until the next post…

Apparently, when I want to, I can knit quite fast.

Exhibit A:

on your toes 05-03-08

Medium (397 x 500)/Large (798 x 1005)

Heel turned, on to the leg, all in 4 days.  For me, this is incredible!

It helps that I can knit this while watching TV or talking to someone (my two favourite activities apart from knitting!) so it’s just gone crazy-fast.

on your toes heelI’ve never done a yarnover short row heel before and I’m not sure if I’ve done it right (is there a right way to do anything, apart from surgery?) but it looks like a heel and quacks fits like a heel, so I’m guessing it’s a heel!

Heel photo: Medium (500 x 481)/Large (686 x 660)

On to other works in progress:

Bill:

No progress on this yet, for the same reasons as last time (need to concentrate, cant concentrate!)

Veste Everest:

This is the swatch/tension square I’ve done with the O-Wool Balance:

veste everest swatch

Medium (500 x 395)/Large (760 x 600)

The yarn is very soft and you can feel the wool in it, but it seems to knit up more like a plant fibre than an animal fibre.  Still, this is exactly what my mum wanted, so who am I to argue?

Has anyone else knit with this yarn?  My mum is likely to want to machine wash the finished garment and although it says to hand wash, I was wondering if anyone had risked it on a gentle machine cycle?  I’m willing to sacrifice the swatch if necessary, but I’d like to have other people’s knowledge at hand first!
