Notes: Finally finished! Just 2 and a half years after I started!  You have no idea how relieved I am to have this finished.  And what’s even more amazing is that I love the finished product.

This shawl was like a light-weight, pretty, millstone around my neck and I’m so glad that it’s done and dusted!

My shawl is much smaller (140 cm by 60 cm/55 in. x 24 in.) because of the much smaller needle size used than that recommended in the “Flowing River” instructions. For the same reason, I used *a lot* less yarn.

There were some rumblings about this in the original Yahoo group and quite a few people were upset. This was my first “real” lace project, so I didn’t know any better!

I’m happy with the shoulder-shawl size I’ve ended up with, and I have more than enough yarn left over (40 g) to make a scarf.

WIP Wednesday?

Yup!

I know!

It’s a bit monotonous (Lace.  Shawl.) but mighty pretty!

Choose Your Own Adventure Shawl:

Clue 2 finished.

anniversary shawl clue 2

I chose chart A – pretty much at random, really.

Aims for next week: work clue 3 when it’s released on Saturday.

Mystery Shawl 2:

A scant 2 and a half years on from starting it, look where I am!

moss shawl nearly done

Hopefully, the next post will be me modelling the shawl and being very, very happy that it’s done!

Other stuff:

The Project With No Name is finished and I’m almost done writing the pattern up.  I’m really pleased with how it looks and how it fits and I just hope I can do it justice (and not make any many mistakes!).

I just need to work through Marnie’s tutorial on doing a schematic (or draw one by hand and scan it!) and then I’ll be done.

Fifth time’s the charm?

Or OMG – like, knitting, right?

I’ve never made a circular shawl before but, confident / arrogant as ever I thought "How difficult can it be?"…

I started with Emily Ocker’s circular cast on (beautifully detail here).

Somehow, I manage to twist my knitting into something hideous, so out it came.

Going back to the tried-and-tested circular cast-on method I went to Judy and her magic.

Not once, not twice, but three times!

Having finally decided that I had to do this ONE. STEP. AT. A. TIME., I colour-coded my needles with my highlighter pens and started again.

Emily Ocker’s cast-on and actually watching what I was doing did the trick and bingo!

Note the Willam Shatner-esque girdle ’round the ball of yarn.

circular shawl or olympus mons

Looks a bit like Olympus Mons!

First clue for the Goddess Anniversary Mystery Shawl a.k.a. the Choose Your Own Adventure Shawl, she is done!

Anticipating that the "Clues" will get more complex I started marking the symbols with different coloured highlight pens.

shawl with marked pattern

Hopefully I’ll come to associate a colour with an action and this should speed the process up (in theory).

Me Vs. the Sun and the Pollen

Now with added knitting content!

This was me on Monday – resplendent in wide-brimmed hat, wrap-around sunglasses, long-sleeved tunic and long trousers (with mucho sunscreen, obviously).

me vs sun and pollen

Strike a pose!

All of this to ward off the sun and the evilness that is pollen!

Of course, having fully enjoyed my morning in the sun my body decided it had had more than enough of this loveliness and I promptly had a little “blip” in my health.

This means I’ve not knit on The Project With No Name since Sunday and I also decided not to risk my health any more than I have to, and I’m not going to participate in World Wide Knit in Public Day. Good luck to those that do (or have already). I’ll see you next year!

Knitting? I got your knitting!

I’ve been wanting to show progress on TPWNN, but I can’t. However, I worked out a way around this:

project with no name in progress

Ta-da!

Try to contain yourselves – I realise the excitement is palpable, but we are all adults here!

The slight dilemma I’m now facing is due to this little relapse – I’m a week behind schedule on getting the pattern done. I’m not going to flog myself to get it finished because I’d rather submit it at a later date or release it myself (or not at all) than either damage my health or send something below the quality I know I can produce.

Of course, I can always rely on someone else’s pattern for my knitting:

goddess shawl swatch

It doesn’t look anywhere near a stripy IRL – I think it’s the flash.

This is the test-piece for the Goddess Knits Anniversary shawl, the first clue of which was released today (because Rennee’s house has been flooded and she has no internet so I think she uploaded it from work). It looks like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure shawl – I think I’ll call it that!

There’s been some sad news today, sprinkled amongst the blogs I read, so have a virtual hug from me if you need one, or if you don’t, pass it on to someone who does. {{hug}}

A lil’ pimpin’ for an online friend

Janine (Guernsey Gal) designed a shawl for a competition.

I love the shawl.

I want it to win.

Vote, people, vote like the wind! (OK, so you can only vote once per I.P. address, but spread the word!)

I did this without asking Janine, and she might be a bit embarrassed, but I genuinely love the stole she made and she’s been very nice to me, especially in regard my baby-steps into designing.
